Advance Civic Empowerment Leaders
Position Description Advance Carolina (AC) is launching the Advance Civic Empowerment (ACE) Leaders program as part of its C4 Youth Voter Engagement (YVE) 2025 initiative. This is a paid, high-impact opportunity for Black and Brown student organizers to lead partisan voter engagement efforts across HBCUs and surrounding PWIs in North Carolina. ACE Leaders will receive training in campaign strategy, field operations, and peer organizing while helping build the political power necessary for Black liberation and justice.
What Makes This Different Unlike traditional civic engagement programs, the ACE Leaders program operates under a 501(c)(4) structure, enabling students to participate in direct political organizing, including candidate advocacy, partisan messaging , and campaign work aligned with Advance Carolina’s vision.
Eligibility Requirements Enrolled as a student at a North Carolina HBCU (undergraduate or graduate)
Committed to racial, social, and political justice
Interested in building campaign and field organizing skills
Comfortable talking with peers about voting, elections, and community issues
Available for required training sessions and voter engagement activities from August–November 2025
Access to transportation to canvass nearby campuses
Preferred Backgrounds We especially encourage applicants majoring in Political Science, History, Sociology, Education, Criminal Justice, or related fields to apply.
Key Responsibilities Attend virtual and in-person training bootcamps in earlyAugust 2025
Recruit and manage a team of canvassers and phone bankers on campus
Build partnerships with Black-led student organizations at your HBCU and a nearby PWI
Coordinate and execute partisan canvassing and phone banking shifts
Lead on-campus campaign education efforts (voter guides, sample ballots, etc.)
Track data and report weekly on activities
Stipend ACE Leaders will receive a $720 stipend for their participation, broken down as follows:
Canvassing: $25/hour for up to 6 hours = $150
Phone Banking: $20/hour for up to 12 hours = $240
Team retention bonus (for managing up to 6 peer canvassers/phone bankers): $30 per peercanvassers/phone bankers retained up to $180 per semester
